Tom Daley is in happily in love! Us Weekly revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 4 that the 19-year-old British Olympic diver is dating 39-year-old screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. During an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show -- airing Saturday, Dec. 7 -- Daley wasn't ready to mention his new boyfriend by name, but gladly shared details about how they met.
"I'd never felt like anything like it before," Daley shared. "We were at a party and I hadn't even spoken to him all night. I didn't know what to do or if he was gay at first."
Eventually working up the courage, the athlete decided to make the first move. "I typed 'call me' in his notes with a smiley face on this phone and the next day he texted," he recalled. "He makes me feel safe and happy, right now I couldn't be happier."
And the feeling of love at first sight seemed to be mutual. "I'd never felt the feeling of love, it happened so quickly. I was completely overwhelmed by it to the point I can't get him out of my head all the time," Daley said. "I've never had it before where I love someone and they love me just as much."
Daley refused, however, to mention his new Oscar-winning boyfriend by name. "At the moment, I wouldn't like anything to change," he explained. "I hope it doesn't get ruined by the media attention. Everyone has been so supportive and I hope it continues that way."
Daley came out as bisexual in a YouTube video on Monday, Dec. 2. "My life changed massively when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great," he shared with his fans in the tape. "That someone is a guy. It did take me by surprise a little bit."
Daley explained on The Jonathan Ross Show that he didn't come out with his sexuality right away. He first told a close friend before deciding to make the YouTube video.
"I felt like there was something wrong with me. I didn't know other people out there felt that way. I felt so alone, so locked away and couldn't say anything," he said. "Now that everyone knows, I have nothing to hide. Those chains that I felt wrapped around me are gone, and I can carry on with my life as normal and be happy."
